Happy New Year! The year 2020 is here and it is the beginning of a new decade.  How exciting!!! As it is customary, you may have set some new goals for yourself and business already,  The ultimate business goal is to be more efficient and provided a faster and better service and experience to your clients.  We all want to do less and do it better.  Here are some more New Year’s resolutions for your business, in case you did not consider them:

  • End of Support – 1/14/2020 is the deadline for end of support for Office 2010, Windows 7, Windows server 2008 and 2008R2.  Do not take any chances and upgrade the affected computers as soon as possible.
  • Think security first – Identify the sensitive data-  Find out what data is important to you. Who has access to it. Do you have a password policy? Do you have Cyber Security insurance policy?  Is your network secure? What happens if you get hacked.  These may sound scary as a resolution but security should always come first.
  • Online backup – If you do not have online backup to back up your data, it is time to do it.  Online backup has become a must, it is easy to implement and affordable.  Take this opportunity to clean house and get rid of the clutter and unnecessary storage by cleaning up the unwanted data and programs.
  • Think Cloud – Moving away from on premise servers and migrating to the cloud is becoming easier and more affordable.  Microsoft Azure is becoming the standard and most businesses are employing it. The overall saving and peace of mind makes this a no-brainer.
  • Get IT Managed Services – Remote Management and Monitoring (RMM) is the surest way to combat the cyber threats. The idea behind Managed Services is to eliminate downtime,  implement data security, improve your productivity, assist your staff and lower IT costs.
  • Think about the Environment – Whatever that you can think of that helps the environment should become a priority.  Recycling, donating your equipment to schools and charities, using less power, using less paper, buying less equipment is a great start.
  • Facelift for your website – Many businesses do not update their websites and use the same tired content and old programs that makes their website vulnerable to be hacked and exploited.  Make sure to get SSL certificate for your website to make it more secure and browser compatible. Use WordPress program and appropriate keywords to make your website search engine and mobile friendly.
  • Evaluate all your software – This is a great time to evaluate the software installed on your computer and the servers.  You should ask yourself, are they the best tools for your business?  Whether these are off the shelf or propriety vertical packages written for your business, spending a few hours to look for an alternative software will not go to waste.
  • Cut back on screen time – This one is one of my main goals.  I know it is very hard habit to drop. But, as the statistics show that American adults spend over 4 hours a day looking at different screens.  The good way to start is to know how much time per day do you spend looking at a screen?  Do you take enough breaks in between? does your screen size strain your eyes?  Do you have a comfortable working environment?
  • Find a great app that helps you with keeping your resolution-  although there is no one App that can help you with all your resolutions but there are many to help you to lose weight, quit smoking, eat healthier, save money, investing better and track your activities.   Here is a link that you might find useful https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/10456-new-years-resolution-technology.html
